Janet Landon serves as the Los Angeles Director for The Edge Foundation. The mission of Edge aligns with Janet’s strong belief in the personalization of support for students.
In a 20 year career as a teacher in Los Angeles and Indianapolis, where she established the School for Advanced Studies (“SAS”) at Orville Wright Middle School, served as GATE Coordinator and was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2002. She founded Westchester Secondary Charter School in 2011. This liberal arts school, grades 6-12, was designed to serve the Westchester community.
Janet has two Bachelor’s Degrees from Indiana, a Master’s in Educational Leadership from CSUN and credentials in gifted education and from All Kinds of Minds.
She has served in leadership positions throughout the Westchester community as well as other LAUSD schools, including service on the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa’s Education Committee. In 2017 the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce gave Janet its Lifetime Achievement in Education Award, an honor given only twice in its 20-year history and she also received the Honorary Mayor’s Award from the Chamber that same year.
She sits on the board of the LAX Coastal Education Foundation, CASDAPP and The First Presbyterian Church of Santa Monica.
She was a professional actress in New York City and Los Angeles prior to coming into the field of education.
